"What do you think, Wynn?', the woman asks, holding the small and obviously outmoded earring up to her ear. "My husband gave me these...oh, many, many years ago!" With an understanding smile and a twinkling eye, Wynn Henderson pronounces the gold and pearl earrings "Hopeless"- in a genteel, Southern way, of course - and the two women share a good laugh.

It's a typical designing session at Migliore, Ltd., a very atypical jewelry store in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead district. The customer brought in a small cosmetic bag full of fine jewelry she no longer wears. She and several friends sit at a small table digging into the jewelry with childlike delight.

But there is a serious purpose afoot. Before this woman leaves today, Wynn will transform - at least on paper - this tangled mishmash of colored stone, pearl and diamond jewelry into distinctive, high end jewelry destined to become the customer's favorites.

For 13 years, she and her partners, Jennie Acree, and Don Montgomery, who handles the manufacturing end, have been making jewelry dreams come true from their shop in a small open mall. Before that, Wynn designed for other store owners.

What began as an avocation has, for Wynn, become a true calling. A tall, graceful woman with a voice brimming with life, Wynn has spent the past 19 years designing fine jewelry for Southern 'high society": She's a favorite for the Junior League and other charity driven organizations. She also designs for people all over the country and in Europe.

Several years ago, she and Don were commissioned to design a blue topaz ring as a gift for a visiting archbishop. " Our brief moment with fame", Don jokes.

The sketch is the first part of the design of any piece.

Then the all important rendering so the client may see a more definitive aspect of the finished piece.

From original drawing to finished design, little changes from the original concept.

Diamonds, sapphires, 18 karat gold and a beautiful South Sea Pearl. Only the genius of Wynn Henderson could have brought this to life.

Wynn got hooked on design many years ago during summers on Hilton Head Island, S. C. Here she got her feet wet designing for a jewelry gallery. "I loved it, so I decided I needed to fish or cut bait," Wynn says merrily. So fish she did.

Later, back in Atlanta, came formal jewelry design and manufacturing training both at Georgia State University and from a private tutor.
